The idea requires the player to actually be there in person, allowing them to engage with a curated real environment rather than trying to project themselves into a virtual one. It means that there is a greater connection between the player and the game. Putting the player into another world, separating them from their regular life and responsibilities, allows for a deeper level of engagement.
