After carrying out our ideation activities (lotus flower to explore features and context, game elements to explore technologies, engagement and interactions etc) and carrying out the crazy eights method to quickly create some ideas for player interaction and space, it was time to draw out some more informed and considerate game ideas.

During this session we sat down and discussed what we had learnt and established so far, working out what our best ideas were so far and how we could combine elements to create some solid ideas that successfully explore our essential experience. For each idea we drew out what it would look like, the key features we would include and then also created some gameplay loops.

Collaborative Task: Game Ideas 1-3/6

Idea 1 - “The Game Box”

This idea took inspiration from our previous research on the domes we visited, as well as XR Game boxes and explores how we may use the technologies considered when brainstorming our game elements.

What is it?

The Game Box is a physical space built with four walls and entrance and exit door. Inside the box will be 360 screens that allowing for visual interaction all around the room, as well as surround sound indicated by the speakers displayed in each corner. The interactions would take place through touch or possibly motion and gesture control. We would want this experience to be collaborative, encouraging discussion and teamwork to complete some small objectives.

Gameplay Loop

Activity/Risk: Collaboratively engage in the environment to influence the safe space through small and direct objectives that require co-operation.

Reward: Accomplish succeeding in restoring/creating the safe space to experience stunning/calming/interesting sounds and visuals to feel immersed and at ease.

Opportunity: Deeper exploration allows for greater access to immersive sound and visuals.

Feedback:

Features that would be enjoyed include a starry night sky, twinkling lights and possibly the interaction of connecting constellations to transform the space.

Setting inside the space could be an ocean with moving waves, sunsets and moving swarms of fish.
