When you assume fair dice, mechanics can be tested in a very short time.
Die combinations can be used in a variety of ways result in many different gameplay experiences

Uses
Rolling Over – if the player rolls a number higher than the difficulty number, then they have been successful.
Rolling Under – if the player rolls a number lower than the difficulty number, then they have been successful. Example of use – looting chests, player must roll under their loot skill in order to find anything.
These are generally used for percentage systems.
Extended example: If the player successfully looted the chest, then the type of loot that they receive is dependent on their success level.
