What is a sensory room?

A sensory room is a therapeutic space that utilises a variety of equipment that provides students with sensory input. They are usually built for children with autism, to provide them with tools to stimulate, which helps to calm and focus themselves so they can be better prepared for learning and interacting with others. It is a safe environment that builds up their confidence and abilities.

Multi-Sensory equipment that is used in the space combines a range of stimuli including lights, colours, sounds, soft play objects and aromas. I have explored in my previous research into sense & stimulation in phase 2, that explains why stimulus is effective in helping the mind to regulate feelings of stress and anxiety, focus and feel supported.
