Music and sound, as well as rhythm and vibrations, can be used to regulate stress and other feelings so therefore, they are significant variables in what makes a "Safe Space". It is, of course, different for every individual. Especially those who suffer from conditions such as sensory processing disorder, PTSD, autism etc as sound for them can be processed by the body much differently. It can also be assumed that taste and personal preference can also affect how music and sound is processed and responded to, differing between each individual.

Below I have created a mind map in Miro to explore the possible contextual avenues I could explore for music and sound, and how that relates back to safe spaces. The most significant links were those that related to the nervous and emotional response that music triggers in the mind and body, as well as how different elements of music affects us differently and furthermore, thinking about how much of it comes down to preference and individual experience.

From the contextual mind map, I came up with quite a few research avenues and things to think about but did not really touch on the more visual aspects of music and sound, so set out to complete another mind map. It helped to come up with ways I could delve deeper into my research topics and start thinking about some first hand responses I could experiment with.

To support this I am making a Pinterest board to gather some visuals and inspire some making. It was quite difficult to find images that illustrated sound that were also interesting. I was not looking for pictures of headphones and sound bars because that is just not going to be inspiring for anything amazing. So I began gathering images that made me think of sound; images that looked as though they were audible.
