Matteo Menapace

Matteo is a board game designer and was the V&A Artist in residence. He has extensive experience in designing games with a focus on co-operative play.

He will be talking about his journey working on his new game Daybreak with Matt Leacock (creator of Pandemic) and why his climate crisis game and other games for good are vital.

Can we make games to change the world?

Activist Elizabeth Magie - value of land should be taxed in relation to size of land (Georgism).

The theory of Georgism was advanced by Henry George who believed that the economic value of land, natural resources, and opportunities should be shared equally by all members of society.

She could not convince people because they did not understand her proposal so she created two games that would teach people. Prosperity and a monopoly-like game (The Landlords Game 1904) that presented the system of land grabbing to understand the different approaches to property management.
