The university has an interactive and immersive piece of technology called the iglooDome, over at the Avenue campus. It was developed by the company IglooVision who express themselves as "the shared and immersive space company".

What is the iglooDome?

The iglooDome is a complete wrap around screen which forms a room, including a door that can be closed to complete the screen. It also has surround sound, and both sound and the screen can be interacted with using a iPad or Android device. The technology was developed to be used for experiments, exhibitions, hospitality and festivals or cultural events.

"Inside an Igloo, the senses are stimulated from every direction. Your audiences are immersed in the action and, if you add in our interactive capabilities, they can become part of the performance." -IglooVision

This iglooDome is a really interesting and unique piece of technology that we could potentially use for in our game design to successfully create a fully immersive experience for our players. So we are going to visit the iglooDome at the avenue campus along with Adam, to take a look at its capabilities and find out just how we could use it for our game ideas.

The Specs:

The iglooDome that we have on campus is cylindrical, without a roof, and is six metres squared in floor space and 2.55 metres tall. It has a 360 degree surround projection screen and 5.1 surround sound system.

The logistics:

If we were to use the dome for our game idea, we would have to find a way to transport it to the arcade show in London. Transporting it would require a transit van and the assembly of the dome at the location would take 3-5 hours as well as requiring a technician present to set up the hardware.
