The proposed game idea for this project is to use a physical space to create an immersive and engaging experience that provides the environment and tools for the regulation of emotional and physical symptoms of stress or overwhelm. This will be achieved through the use of projection mapping, surround sound and the use of immersive technology to create interaction within the space.| am researching the effects of elements of visual design to explore how we can design the visual experience to be effective in relaxing and engaging the player in a connective and introspective manner.

What I know

Visuals and sound are the most sensitive sensory inputs and as explored in my previous research, can be instrumental tools to use in mental regulation, whether it be through targeted therapy, immersion or simple self-help activities. I have established in previous research how stimulation through sight and sound can evoke emotion but also how it can help to calm feelings of panic and distress by lowering heart and breathing rate. I would like to explore further how visual and audible creations stimulate the mind to create a specific response in the person.

What I want to know

How can visual shapes, colour and motion be used to create a relaxing and calming response from the body and mind?

How is colour/visual theory used in mental health treatment?

How does hypnosis work? And is the effect I am trying to create, share some similarities with that?

Visual Interaction

Colour, shape and motion.

Colour

I can use colour theory and psychology to work out how colour can be used to stimulate different responses in a player, through emotion and through triggering a nervous response. Colour psychology is the study of how colours determine human emotions and behaviours and this can be influenced through personal experience, cultural background and personal tastes but generally colours have similar responses amongst all humans.
